MEASUREMENT TOOLS - Soil Moisture Meters
Low Tension Tensiometers
Low
tension tensiometers were designed out of a need for those situations
where the optimum moisture levels were in the wet range (0-10 cb). The
low tension instrument utilizes a liquid filled gauge and a different
ceramic tip than a standard tensiometer.
It's ideal applications
are in the coarse sandy soils of the southeast part of the U.S. and the
Northwest U.S. It is also an ideal instrument for nursery and greenhouse
growers who deal with non-soil container media. Field crop growers who
have poor water retention or where there can be rapid changes in water
retention benefit immensely from this style of tensiometer.
As is the case with
all tensiometers, a service kit is required for
the first installation.

What our customers are saying
about
Low Tension Tensiometers
"For years I heard my
farmer friends talk about their tensiometers and how they saved them money
and water. I was a little envious because the standard tensiometer didn't
work in our greenhouse soils. This new low tension tensiometer is perfect
for our growing media. Now I can brag back to my farmer friends and tell
them how much I'm saving."
A. Messia (Portland,
OR)
"This new tensiometer does
a great job of monitoring our tomato crops which we have on drip irrigation.
We needed a little more sensitivity in the low cb range and this works better
for us than the standard tensiometer."
D. Kerr (Gardner, KS)
